Trichlorfon or Metrifonate is an irreversible organophosphate acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It is a prodrug which is activated non-enzymatically into 2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate. It is used as an insecticide.
Metrifonate is more commonly known as a drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis during the 1960s. It has been used extensively in developing countries around the world. Metrifonate is used as an antihelminthic widly for livestock. Name of Trichlorfon is more commonly knows as pesticide directory list as insecticide, but it is actually same material with different name.
Trichlorfon is an organophosphate insecticide used to control cockroaches, crickets, silverfish, bedbugs, fleas, cattle grubs, flies, ticks, leafminers, and leaf-hoppers. Trichlorfon is applied to vegetable, fruit, and field crops; livestock; ornamental and forestry plantings; in agricultural premises and domestic settings; in greenhouses, and for control of parasites of fish in designated aquatic environments. It is also used for treating domestic animals for control of internal parasites

Cholinesterase inhibitor; activity may be due to in vivo conversion to dichlorvos (q.v.).
Mode of action Non-systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action. 
Uses
Insecticidal control in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, food storage, gardening, households, and animal husbandry. In particular, control of Diptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, and Coleoptera on many crops. For agricultural uses, applied at 300-1200 g/ha. Also used to control household pests such as flies, cockroaches, fleas, bed bugs, silverfish, ants, etc.; as a fly bait in farm buildings and animal houses; and for control of ectoparasites on domestic animals.
