Triflumuron is typically used for the control of silverfish, immature fleas and cockroaches in indoor and outdoor situations.
Triflumuron is known as an insect growth regulator(IGR) which interrupts the life-cycle of termites preventing immature termites from developing into adult termites. This product is of low to medium toxicity to humans. It targets a specific enzyme in insects, such as termites, which is not found in humans.
Triflumuron is benzoylphenylurea(BPU) insecticide and inhibits chitin synthesis in developing insects. Triflumuron is nowadays used against both stored products pests and disease vectors, strongly affecting insect reproduction by disruption of oviposition and/or eclosion of eggs laid by treated females. Its ovicidal effect is achieved either by direct application onto eggs or by treatment of insects at any life stage. Triflumuron treated immature stages and adults derived from them frequently lay fewer and nonviable eggs when compare to their untreated counterparts. This occurs by full or partial disruption of both embryogenesis and gonads development of both sexes. Moreover, triflumuron effects vary according to insect pecies, developmental stage at time of application, kind of compound, mode, and dose of administration.
