Cyphenothrin is the ISO common name for a racemic mixture of 4 pairs of diastereoisomers, designated as (±)-α-cyano-3- phenoxybenzyl (±)-cis-trans- chrysanthemate. The name d,d,trans-cyphenothrin refers to an enantio-enriched mixture, comprised mainly of the single stereoisomer (S)-alpha-cyano-3- phenoxybenzyl (1R, 3R)-2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-methylprop-1-enyl) cyclopropanecarboxylate, with only small proportions of the other stereoisomers, Cyphenothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. It is effective against cockroaches that have developed resistance to organophosphorous and carbamate insecticides.

Cyphenothrin, as the new developed synthetic pyrethroid has low mammalian toxicity and has been categorised slightly hazardous and more it is non-irritating to the eye and is neither a dermal irritant nor a skin sensitizer.

APPLICATIONS
Biochemistry
Acts on the nervous system of insects, disturbs the function of neurons by interaction with the sodium channel.

Mode of actioninsecticide-anti-moustiques
Non-systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action. Acts on the nervous system of the insects, and has a rapid knock-down effect, in addition to a good residual effect. Also exhibits repellent properties.

Uses
Control of houseflies, midges and cockroaches in household use, public health, and industrial use. Also controls insects which attack wood and fabric.
