Pyriproxyfen is a pyridine-based pesticide which is found to be effective against a variety of arthropoda. Pyriproxyfen is initially used to to protect cotton crops against whitefly. It has also been found useful for protecting other crops. It is also used as a prevention for flea control on household pets, for killing indoor and outdoor ants and roaches. Methods of application include aerosols, bait, carpet powders, foggers, shampoos and pet collars.

Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone analog and an insect growth regulator(IGR). It prevents larvae from developing into adulthood and thus rendering them unable to reproduce. Pyriproxyfen acts by suppressing embryogenesis within the insect egg and by inhibiting metamorphosis and adult emergence of target insects. Pyriproxyfen have seldomPyriproxyfen, white fly, insect growth regulator activity on adult insects, by hatching of eggs laid by treated adults will be suppressed. as an insect growth regulator and activity depends on the development of insects, evidence of activity will be slower than typical contact insecticides.
