Haloxyfop is in the pyridine chemical family, Haloxyfop-P-methyl is a selective herbicide used as pre- and postemergence selective herbicides. They control annual and perennial grasses in sugar beet, oilseed, potatoes, leaf vegetables, onions, sunflowers, strawberries, and other crops. After uptake by plants, the methylester is rapidly hydrolysed to yield haloxyfop, which is the active moiety. In grasses, haloxyfop-P acts by competitively binding to the Acetyl-CoA-carboxylase (ACCase) that catalyzes the biosynthesis of fatty acid.

The active ingredient (AI) of Haloxyfop-P-methyl is The (R)- isomer of haloxyfop-methyl, that is why some one often type the product name as Haloxyfop-R-methyl.

Biochemistry
Fatty acid synthesis inhibitor, by inhibition of acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase).

Mode of action
Haloxyfop-P-methyl is a selective herbicide, absorbed by the foliage and roots, and hydrolysed to haloxyfop-P, which is translocated to meristematic tissues, and inhibits their growth.

Uses
Haloxyfop-P-methyl is used post-emergence for control of annual and perennial grasses in sugar beet, fodder beet, oilseed rape, potatoes, leaf vegetables, onions, flax, sunflowers, soya beans, vines, strawberries, and other crops. Applied at 52-104 g a.e./ha.
