Propiconazole

Propiconazole, 丙环唑 other name: 1-[[2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-propyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl]methyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole

CAS No.: [60207-90-1]

Molecular Formula: C15H17Cl2N3O2

Propiconazole is a triazole fungicide, or demethylation inhibiting fungicide due to its binding with and inhibiting the 14-alpha demethylase enzyme from demethylating a precursor to ergosterol. Without this demethylation step, the ergosterols are not incorporated into the growing fungal cell membranes, and cellular growth is stopped.

Propiconazole is approved for use on grasses grown for seed, sod farm and utility turf, crops (like corn/maize, wheat, rice, rye, sugar cane, sugar beets, sorghum and oats), ornamentals, fruit (banana; stone fruits – apricots, prunes, plums, nectarines and peaches) and nuts (coffee, peanuts, pecan and almond).  It can also be used to treat and prevent diseases in wood and wood productsPropiconazole, fungicides

Propiconazole is used for the control of certain fungal diseases of Bananas, Oats, Peanuts, perennial Ryegrass, Pineapples, Stone Fruit, Sugar Cane, Wheat and Other corps.

Biochemistry: Inhibits protein synthesis in fungi, by interference with the synthesis of ribosomal RNA.

APPLICATIONS
Biochemistry

Steroid demethylation (ergosterol biosynthesis) inhibitor.

Mode of action

Systemic foliar fungicide with protective and curative action, with translocation acropetally in the xylem.

Uses

Systemic foliar fungicide with a broad range of activity, at 100-150 g/ha. On cereals, it controls diseases caused by Cochliobolus sativus, Erysiphe graminis, Leptosphaeria nodorum, Puccinia spp., Pyrenophora teres, Pyrenophora tritici-repentis, Rhynchosporium secalis, and Septoria spp. In bananas, control of Mycosphaerella musicola and Mycosphaerella fijiensis var. difformis. Other uses are in turf against Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, Rhizoctonia solani, Puccinia spp. and Erysiphe graminis; in rice against Rhizoctonia solani, Helminthosporium oryzae, and dirty panicle complex; in coffee against Hemileia vastatrix; in peanuts against Cercospora spp.; in stone fruit against Monilinia spp., Podosphaera spp., Sphaerotheca spp. and Tranzschelia spp.; in maize against Helminthosporium spp.
