N-Acetylneuraminic Acid (Neu5Ac)
N-acetylneuraminic acid is an N-acyl derivative of neuraminic or acid amino
sugar derivative, derived from N-acetylmannosamine and pyruvic acid. It is an
important constituent of glycoproteins and glycolipids. N-acetylneuraminic acid
occurs in many polysaccharides, glycoproteins, and glycolipids in animals and
bacteria. N-Acetyl-D-Neuraminic acid is naturally widespread carbohydrate with
numerous biological functions, including blood protein half-life regulation,
variety of toxin neutralization, cellular adhesion and glycoprotein lytic protection.
Starting reagent of biochemical derivatives for the synthesis pharmaceuticals.
